Commissions: Readme

Effective July 31, 2005, I, David Ashmore, will be accepting commissions. A commission will be defined by the Universal Observatory, as any work of literature, art, or collaborative labor done for the gain of monetary compensation...

On November 5, 2010, some clarifications in terminology and procedure were made. These are considered minor changes and not notation of those changes are made below.

Rules are in place to prevent poorly considered orders, not discourage individuals from placing an order. I will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis at no charge (if that is your fear). So ask. The worst that can happen is I say "no" - and that doesn't happen too often.

Changes may be made without notice but will not be retroactive...

What will be done...

-Fights, sexual foreplay, action, stunts, romance, group shots (priced as listed), "ultra-violence" or its aftermath and "after sex".

-"Ultra-Violence" will be loosely defined as acts producing gory, bloody, and "Fist of the North Star" scenes of extreme destruction.

-"After sex" will be loosely defined as any scene that takes place after a sexual act be it intercourse, masturbation, or simply getting "wood". (Exceptions made at will.)

-Suggestive and non-suggestive nude pictures of appropriate characters (children or very child-like characters will be handled non-suggestively without exception-if at all).

      - Blatant sex acts. Sexual intercourse of any type will be considered. This is not a "go nuts and be gross" inclusion. Basically if "Playboy" or "Penthouse" (NOT "Hustler") would not show it, I will not draw it. (Exceptions made at will. Please ask.)

What will not be done...

-Politically and culturally insensitive imagery. No racial, religious, or personal slams, slurs, or the like . So don't ask!

-The only exceptions to this may be (and these are not guaranteed) if such orders are in context with a completed story or series. Even then, don't hold your breath.

-Trademarked characters. Any characters owned by companies, corporations, or individuals who have not extended permission to use their character(s) by others in a commercial endeavor will be turned down. NO EXCEPTINONS! I don't want to be sued. Characters that are similar in likeness, but can in no way be considered identical, nor sharing the same name; that is, based on but is NOT the source character, will be considered but only if they are deemed sufficiently varied to be permitted. It is on artist approval.

What I will need (and it's not a whole lot)...

-Reference material for a character(s); an image or location to find an image on-line. I don't know most characters by name and will need a face to go with the name(s).If an image does not exist do make a fairly short and concise description of the character as if you are explaining what the character looks like to someone who has no idea what that character looks like. Site references, be descriptive, avoid long flowery prose and be technical, even sterile being direct and to the point.

-Specifications on a character, especially if the characters a "macro", Super-powered, etc. The basic information most desired includes the character's name, general age -in Earth years please, height, weight (optional), species (the general animal species such as Tiger, Grizzly Bear, Bald Eagle, Human, Dark Elf, etc. is acceptable), and any additional information you wish to include to clarify your description of your character and/or commission content. A rough description of the scene you wish drawn; the pose of the character, state of dress or undress, and props, activities, or scenery will be very helpful.

- What the Character will be doing. This is very  important as I will not always know the character(s) or contexts of the character. Because of this I do want some idea, at least, of what you want your character to be portrayed doing. As with the character description, I am not looking to be regaled by prose and verbose description. Please be short and to the point. This can include motivations and emotional states, and likely should, but deep involved descriptions should be kept short.

-Please keep in mind that you are hiring my services based on my skills and not those of other artists. If I detect that your descriptions are attributable to another artist (you are asking me to effectively draw like another artist), I will have questions. Based upon the answers, I may recommend the appropriate artist, regardless of what prices they are offering. You are hiring me to draw a character or characters in my style not another artist's style.

- Please also note that if the reference materials provided dictate a specific look I will default to the reference unless specific description or example is given. I have been asked to draw a character to specifications not given. If given anything resembling free reign, I will take some liberties toward what I believe you want, what the character(s) may require, and what I can provide.

How long it will take...

- As long as it takes given obligations and situations and activities. I will work to get it done as quickly as possible. Please be patient.

How much will it cost...

*All prices are in US dollars...

- Due to the changing costs of shipping there is a modest increase in shipping a package. These are flat rates in US dollars. Shipping will add $ 3.00 USD to the total -covering packing and postage.

-Shipping CDs

Sending by e-mail is free, however, be aware that uncompressed files, usually a TIF and/or PNG or uncompressed JPEG, will be sent to preserve image quality and can be very large (easily 1-5 Megabytes). Sending the file by CD will cost an additional $5.00 and will include a copy of the unflattened image(s), any additional development images, and any alternate final images sent with the original drawing.
